JPI Oceans publishes their 2020 Annual Report

Friday, September 10, 2021

The Joint Programming Initiative Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans (JPI Oceans) was established in 2011 as an intergovernmental platform, open to all EU Member States and Associated Countries. It strives to increase the impact of national investments in marine and maritime research and innovation, by joining forces in a long-term collaboration with international partners. Indeed, JPI Oceans covers all European sea basins with 20 member countries, including Malta.  By being part of this initiative, Malta, through the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) has been able to pool resources and capacities with the other participating countries to address the challenges of the protection, sustainable use and management of marine waters, towards obtaining productive and healthy seas and oceans.  JPI Oceans has just released its annual report, containing information on what has been done and achieved during 2020. Despite the global pandemic that hit early in 2020, activities and initiatives continued, albeit with some modifications given COVID-related restrictions. JPI Oceans Annual Report 2020 is available for download here.

JPI Oceans actively supports the ERA-NET Cofund on Blue Bioeconomy – Unlocking the Potential of Aquatic Bioresources (BlueBio). MCST is participating in the second additional Call for R&I projects to support local stakeholders. The Call is currently open and pre-proposal submissions are invited until the 20th September 2021.
