Overall Purpose of the position

The Employee will form part of the Authority’s Technology Unit and shall be directly answerable in the performance of his/her duties and conduct to the Chief Technologist or his/her direct appointed delegate.

Main duties & responsibilities

The Officer shall be responsible for the following main duties and responsibilities:

• Research and develop and innovative concepts/products/services/solutions for the adoption of the technology, regulatory and operation departments;
• Conduct market research and assess the feasibility and potential uptake of innovative concepts/products/services/solutions;
• Enhance and optimise existing concepts/products/services/solutions;
• Provide technology related consultancy as required;
• Keep abreast with innovative technological and technological regulatory developments worldwide;
• Build and maintain a rapport with local and international technological domain experts;
• Manage and guide MDIA Technology Assurance Sandbox applicants throughout their Sandbox Residency;
• Assist respective manager in people, supplier and task management tasks;
• Any other task as assigned by the Chief Technologist.

Authority Levels (decisions & discretion)

• Recommendations on appropriate courses of action.

Working Conditions

• Normal office hours, unless specifically requested by the Chief Technologist.

 Main communication channels (key working relationships)

• Liaison with Departments of the Authority and with other bodies;
• Liaison with suppliers and external consultants;
• Liaison with employees of the Authority;
• Liaison with other government Authorities/Agencies/Entities;
• Liaison with Applicants.

Job Requirements

Applicants must be in the possession of the following:

1. The required candidate should have a solid academic technology background in Artificial Intelligence (Al), Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and information Security or another related background which may be considered relevant for this post.
2. Possession of a post graduate degree in a discipline relevant to the Technology sector would be considered an asset. The role calls for an academic qualification in a relevant field of study at National Qualification Framework Level 6 or better, duly certified by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) or a widely recognised professional qualification at a comparable level.
3. The applicant should also possess a minimum of five (5) years working in a relevant area. Candidates with longer working experience relevant to the role will be preferred.
4. If the candidate does not have the necessary academic or professional qualifications but have at least ten (10) years of relevant experience in a similar role, the Authority would still be interested in speaking with him/her.
