Source of Funding: Malta Council for Science and Technology

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) is receiving proposals under the Research Networking Scheme (RNS). The Scheme consists of two components, the Networking Scheme and the Open Access Journal Support . Applicants are to fill in the appropriate sections of the form; they may select one of the components or both:

Networking Scheme: opportunities for collaborative initiatives between Maltese entities and at least one foreign entity of proven track record of excellence. Proposals should describe the nature of the joint activities that would be funded through the Award. Applicants are to demonstrate how the proposed activities contribute towards and align with achieving the goals of the National R&I Strategy, and to describe the potential of any activities to become self-sustaining or generate longer-term outcomes. The amount of the Award under the Networking Scheme is up to €8,000.

Open Access Journal Support: this new opportunity will support researchers who have already benefited from MCST research grants to publish their research done on a peer reviewed open access journal. The amount of the Award under the Open Access Journal Support is up to €4,000.

All projects are evaluated by a selection panel set up by MCST on the basis of evaluation criteria outlined in the Call text. Interested Applicants are to submit their application form electronically to networking.mcst@gov.mt keeping in copy Mr. Robert Cauchi at robert.cauchi@gov.mt with “RNS – Application 2024” as subject heading. The deadline for submission is Friday 21st June 2024 at 11.30pm. The application must be dated and signed by the applicant and the legal representative. All received applications shall be acknowledged by email. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

DRG4FOOD 2024 Call

DRG4FOOD 2024 Call

Source of Funding: DRG4Food Project

The heart of the DRG4Food project beats for responsible data-driven solutions that empower people, champion data rights, and drive the creation of sustainable food systems. Our focus is on catalyzing data-driven innovation in the food industry, all while staying aligned with Digital Responsibility Goals and principles.

The open call welcomes multidisciplinary consortia of 2-3 entities, including startups, SMEs, research organizations, universities, technology adopters, and users in the food sector, particularly NGOs and consumer associations. Each consortium must consist of 2 to 3 partners from at least two different countries, with one partner required to be from an EU member state. Consortia are expected to demonstrate the ability to develop data-driven solutions that align with Digital Responsibility Goals and actively involve end-users in defining technical requirements and enhancing pilot project activities. Specific conditions for consortium participation apply.

Overall Objectives of MARG

The MDIA Applied Research Grant (MARG) aims to support capacity-building efforts related to:

  • Artificial Intelligence; and/or
  • Digital Trust; and/or
  • Knowledge, Data Representation and Analysis; and/or
  • Technology for Sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG); and/ or
  • Quantum Computing; and
  • Other Emerging Technologies.

Horizon Internationalisation Partnership Award Scheme (HIPAS)

Source of Funding: Malta Council for Science and Technology

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) is receiving proposals under the Horizon Internationalisation Partnership Award Scheme (HIPAS).

The Scheme will support Maltese eligible entities intending to submit a Horizon Europe proposal (including Partnerships indicated in the Scheme Rules), as a Coordinator entity to engage a service provider (local or foreign) who will be supporting the applicant entity through proposal writing and submission.

Interested Applicants are to submit their application form electronically to horizon.malta@gov.mt keeping Lili Kankaya lili.vasileva@gov.mt in copy with “HIPAS – Application 2024” as a subject heading.

The call will be open throughout the year with the following cut offs:

  • 19th April 2024
  • 19th July 2024
  • 8th November 2024

Digital Technologies Programme

Digital Technologies Programme

Source of Funding: Malta Council for Science and Technology

After the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between MCST and the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), several avenues for collaboration were identified, including a dedicated thematic programme for the digital domain. The Digital Technologies Programme aims to support capacity-building efforts related to:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Digital Trust
  • Knowledge and Data Representation and Analysis
  • Technology for Sustainability and ESG
  • Quantum Computing and Other Emerging Technologies

It aims to move towards a safer and more trustworthy development, adoption, and use of digital technologies. The Digital Technologies Programme is intended to fund projects which are either early stage or applied research, hence targeting research between TRL 1 and TRL 7.

MCST-TUBITAK 2024 Joint Call for R&I Proposals - Online Information Event

Source of Funding: Malta Council for Science and Technology

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) launched the 4th MCST-TÜBİTAK 2024 Joint Call for R&I Proposals to support cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation in the following thematic areas:

  • PRIMA Programme Thematic fields (Water management, Sustainable Farming systems, Agro-food value chain)
  • Digital Technologies
  • Smart Manufacturing
  • Health

Malta-based entities and Türkiye-based entities are invited to jointly apply for funding to undertake a R&I project in these thematic areas.

This Call involves a one-stage submission process, and the complete submission documentation needs to be received by the 14th June 2024 (23:59 CET).

Source of Funding: COST - European Cooperation in Science & Technology

Participants are invited to submit COST Action proposals contributing to the scientific, technological, economic, cultural or societal knowledge advancement and development of Europe. Multi- and interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged.

The Open Call Action proposal submission, evaluation, selection and approval (SESA) procedure is fully science and technology-driven and will ensure a simple, transparent and competitive proposal evaluation and selection process, reflecting the bottom-up, open and inclusive principles of COST.

CYBER+ALT Grant Scheme

CYBER+ALT Grant Scheme


This incentive seeks to assist SMEs through non-repayable grants to part-finance investment that will enhance their overall level of security and resilience in order to be in a better position to handle cyber threats and be proactive to meet future challenges. This will improve the capacity of the local organisations whilst increasing the level of investment made in cybersecurity locally.

Eligible Organisations

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Financing

This scheme is co-funded through the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) (50%) and National Funds (50%). Eligible projects will be part-financed up to 80% of the cost for investment in Malta, for a maximum grant of up to €60,000 per project. The allocated budget for this scheme is set at €2,000,000.

The AgriTech4Egypt Innovation Challenge is a program designed specifically for early-stage agri-tech ventures in Egypt. At this stage, you must have a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or Proof of Concept (POC). This program will support and prepare you to build a solid go-to-market strategy through technical validation and access to the market.

This program is powered by CGIAR Accelerate for Impact Platform (A4IP) and co-organized with CGIAR Centers–The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIATICARDAIWMI, and IFPRI–and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) of Egypt. This project is endorsed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Egypt (MOHESR) and supported by PRIMA, Climate Resilient Africa Fund (CRAF), Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA), and CGIAR Initiatives and units operating in the MENA region.
