Collaborate with leading researchers in Japan for 14 days to 10 months
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) is pleased to announce the 2026–2027 call for its Invitational Fellowships for Research in Japan. These fellowships offer a unique opportunity for established international researchers to collaborate with Japanese colleagues at top research institutions across the country.
Fellowship Overview
Invitational Fellowships support single research visits to Japan for collaborative activities with leading Japanese research groups. The programme welcomes applicants from all fields of the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
There are two categories of fellowships:
Short-Term Fellowship
Long-Term Fellowship
These fellowships are open to established researchers with a strong record of research achievements. JSPS fellowships may be awarded to the same researcher multiple times, making this a great opportunity to sustain long-term collaboration.
Japanese nationals who have lived outside Japan for at least 10 years and have been actively engaged in research throughout this period are also eligible to apply.
Application Details
Important: Host institutions may set earlier internal deadlines (often one month or more before the JSPS deadline). Please contact your host in Japan early to allow sufficient time for application preparation and submission.
The JSPS electronic system will open for submissions in July 2025.
