Research and Innovation in Energy and Water Grant Scheme 2025

The Energy and Water Agency is pleased to launch the 2025 edition of the Energy and Water Research and Innovation Scheme.

Now in its sixth consecutive year, the submission period will open soon for Research and Innovation projects working on solutions that align with Malta’s national priorities in energy and water. The application period is open from the 14th of July and will remain open until the 10th of October.

For this edition, proposals must address at least one of the following priority areas:

  1. Optimising greywater systems for improved efficiency in water use
  2. Enhancing water circularity practices within industrial operations
  3. Developing smart technologies for detecting and/or preventing post-meter water leakages in commercial buildings
  4. Designing renewable energy and storage systems that enhance resilience in island communities
  5. Deploying AI-enabled smart systems for optimised clean energy use in manufacturing industries
  6. Integrating renewable energy generation and storage to ensure stable and reliable clean energy supply

All funded projects are required to deliver a working prototype or model demonstrable in an operational environment in the three year maximum scheme timeline.

This structure supports the Agency’s commitment to fostering tangible, impactful innovation in support of long-term environmental sustainability. The scheme offers a total budget of €400,000, with individual projects eligible for up to €200,000 in funding. Only applications submitted by eligible consortia will be considered.
