FutureNeuro is a national research centre focused on chronic and rare neurological diseases, funded by Science Foundation Ireland and based at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. FutureNeuro brings together multidisciplinary scientific teams with clinicians and industry to deliver advances in diagnostic medicine, personalized and network therapeutics, cross-linked by a national e-Health infrastructure platform that is disease-focused.

The NeuroInsight Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action(MSCA) COFUND programme offers prestigious MSCA fellowships for outstanding postdoctoral researchers in the area of Advanced Analytics in Neurological Diseases. The programme aims to support a new kind of postdoctoral-level researcher, who will develop advanced skills in data analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), machine and deep learning and apply them to the challenges of neurological conditions. The programme will facilitate high quality interdisciplinary research, provide opportunities to interact with industry, clinicians, patient groups and datasets, and establish a talented group of future research leaders. NeuroInsight Fellowships are for experienced researchers of any nationality, seeking a prestigious career developing position based in one of the seven FutureNeuro affiliated Irish academic institutions: RCSI, Trinity College Dublin, DCU, UCD, University of Galway, UCC and Waterford Institute of Technology.

The FutureNeuro SFI Research Centre for Data Analytics is seeking to host 5 experienced postdoctoral researchers. Fellowships will include a mandatory 3-6-month secondment to another research performing non-academic organisation in industry, clinical and/or charity sectors in any country.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct a programme of research in the area of Advanced Analytics in Neurological Diseases.
  • Provide support and advice to PhD students working on similar topics.
  • Assist the Principal Investigators (PIs) in identifying and developing future research/funding initiatives.
  • Produce top quality journal and conference publications, in collaboration with the PIs.
  • Participate in FutureNeuro Centre activities, including industry showcases, annual reviews and industry and agency visits to the Insight labs.
  • Carry out administrative work associated with the programme of research as necessary.
  • Other tasks relevant to successfully implementing the assigned research programme.
  • Liaise with both external and internal stakeholders, including academics, undergraduate and postgraduate students, external supervisors and host placement schools.
  • Preparation of project outputs, interim and final reports as required by the project schedule.
  • Deliver research outputs according to project schedules.
  • Other tasks relevant to successfully implementing the assigned research programme.
  • Attend and present results at project progress meetings.
  • Carry out additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

Skills/Qualifications

Minimum Criteria

Applicants must be Experienced Researchers and or have a PhD in an area relevant to data analytics and/or neurological diseases by call deadline (31st October 2023).

Universal Criteria

  • Applicants must be Experienced Researchers at the call deadline – i.e., be in possession of a doctoral degree or, if the applicant has does not have a doctoral degree, they should have at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience.
  • Candidates must have a maximum of 8 years full-time equivalent experience in research, measured from the date applicants were in possession of a doctoral degree. Years of experience outside research and career breaks will not be taken into account.
  • Applicants must be fluent in English (written and spoken).

Mobility Criteria

Incoming Fellowship: Applicants can be of any nationality but must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Ireland for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the call deadline (31 October 2023).

Global Fellowship: Applicants can’t have lived or worked in the outgoing host country for >12 months in the last 3 years.
