• Quantum Computing; and
• Other Emerging Technologies.

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) is receiving proposals under the Horizon Internationalisation Partnership Award Scheme (HIPAS).

The Scheme will support Maltese eligible entities intending to submit a Horizon Europe proposal (including Partnerships indicated in the Scheme Rules), as a Coordinator entity to engage a service provider (local or foreign) who will be supporting the applicant entity through proposal writing and submission.

Interested Applicants are to submit their application form electronically to horizon.malta@gov.mt keeping Lili Kankaya lili.vasileva@gov.mt in copy with “HIPAS – Application 2024” as a subject heading.

The call will be open throughout the year with the following cut offs:

• 19th April 2024
• 19th July 2024
• 8th November 2024

After the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between MCST and the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), several avenues for collaboration were identified, including a dedicated thematic programme for the digital domain. The Digital Technologies Programme aims to support capacity-building efforts related to:

• Artificial Intelligence
• Digital Trust
• Knowledge and Data Representation and Analysis
• Technology for Sustainability and ESG
• Quantum Computing and Other Emerging Technologies

It aims to move towards a safer and more trustworthy development, adoption, and use of digital technologies. The Digital Technologies Programme is intended to fund projects which are either early stage or applied research, hence targeting research between TRL 1 and TRL 7.

The Joint Call on Consequences of Changing Marine Lightscapes is now officially open, aiming to address critical gaps in our understanding of the drivers and ecological impacts of changing marine lightscapes resulting from both Coastal Darkening and Artificial Light at Night.

This initiative, supported by seven Funding Partners, including the Malta Council for Science and Technology, will provide funding to R&I projects focusing on the following key areas:

• Observing changes in marine lightscapes
• Causes of change in marine lightscapes
• Consequences of changing marine lightscapes
• Managing impacts of changing marine lightscapes

Entities based in Malta are eligible to request up to € 200,000 in funding so that together with their consortium they can submit a proposal (N.B. if more than one National partner is present in one consortium, the total amount of funding for the participating National partners cannot exceed the € 200,000 capping).

The Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) launched the 4th MCST-TÜBİTAK 2024 Joint Call for R&I Proposals to support cooperation in Science, Technology, and Innovation in the following thematic areas:

• PRIMA Programme Thematic fields (Water management, Sustainable Farming systems, Agro-food value chain)
• Digital Technologies
• Smart Manufacturing
• Health

Malta-based entities and Türkiye-based entities are invited to jointly apply for funding to undertake a R&I project in these thematic areas.

This Call involves a one-stage submission process, and the complete submission documentation needs to be received by the 14th June 2024 (23:59 CET).

he Rapid Applications for Transport (RAPTOR) Programme seeks to do so via its agile competition. The RAPTOR competition matches European cities facing urban mobility challenges with start-ups with innovative solutions. 

Meet your RAPTOR 2024 cities

In 2024, 13 cities from across Europe with niche mobility challenges requiring innovative solutions have been selected to participate in the Rapid Applications for Transport (RAPTOR) programme.

RAPTOR 2024 Call

The competition was launched for start-ups to propose solutions addressing these city mobility challenges. Each city, supported by technical and business advisors, will select the most promising start-ups to receive funding, to develop their solution to be tested in the city within five months of award.

Following the agile methodology of the programme, the projects will kick off in August and run until December 2024. During these 5 months, winners will work closely with their respective city. Firstly the innovative start-up solutions for mobility challenges will need to be developed and tailored to the city specific requirements. Then they will be tested and validated in real-life demonstrations.

A maximum of 13 awardees, one per city challenge, will be selected and supported by EIT Urban Mobility financially, technically, and commercially, from August to December 2024. In addition to funding of up to EUR 40 000, awardees will receive technical and business mentoring, and support to market and promote the project. Applicants are sought from EU Member States or Horizon Europe associated states.

Source of Funding: COST - European Cooperation in Science & Technology

Participants are invited to submit COST Action proposals contributing to the scientific, technological, economic, cultural or societal knowledge advancement and development of Europe. Multi- and interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged.

The Open Call Action proposal submission, evaluation, selection and approval (SESA) procedure is fully science and technology-driven and will ensure a simple, transparent and competitive proposal evaluation and selection process, reflecting the bottom-up, open and inclusive principles of COST.

Participants planning to submit a proposal for a COST Action will need to refer to the SESA guidelines and to the Open Call Announcement available on the below link.

This incentive seeks to assist SMEs through non-repayable grants to part-finance investment that will enhance their overall level of security and resilience in order to be in a better position to handle cyber threats and be proactive to meet future challenges. This will improve the capacity of the local organisations whilst increasing the level of investment made in cybersecurity locally.

Eligible Organisations

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

Financing

This scheme is co-funded through the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) (50%) and National Funds (50%). Eligible projects will be part-financed up to 80% of the cost for investment in Malta, for a maximum grant of up to €60,000 per project. The allocated budget for this scheme is set at €2,000,000.
