Call for Ideas towards Start-Up Actions for a PlAstic fRee heAlthy MeDIterranean SEa (PARADISE Call)

The Malta Council for Science and Technology would like to announce the call for Ideas towards Start-Up Actions for a PlAstic fRee heAlthy meDIterranean SEa – PARADISE.

The call is aimed at Enabling Research in Plastics in a Circular Economy Context, it is intended to support applicant entities seeking to escalate the activities to explore new ideas, methods and innovations that can bring changes in the manufacturing/imports/distribution, consumption patterns and life cycle of plastics. This will enable the participants to generate their ideas and carry out the necessary preparatory activities that may lead to an enhanced project proposal for Horizon Europe calls based on any actions they wish to carry out locally and may include activities overseas.

Participants need to consult the Terms of Reference applicable – State Aid or Non- State Aid and are required to submit the application form and corresponding annexes.

Correctly-filled applications should be submitted by 1800hrs on 6th November 2020 to paradise.mcst@gov.mt. Late applications will not be considered.

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO PROVIDE EVALUATION SERVICES UNDER THE RESEARCH EXCELLENCE PROGRAMME AND THE PARADISE CALL

Source of Funding: Malta Council for Science and Technology

This is a Call for Expression of Interest is intended for Evaluators wanting to provide evaluation service to the Malta Council for Science and Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Council) in the systematic and objective assessment of submitted project proposals submitted in respect of the Research Excellence Programme or the PARADISE Call.

Research Excellence Programme:

The aim of the Research Excellence Programme is to determine the excellence of individual proposals as per guidelines stipulated by the Council.
This Call is open to Evaluators with expertise in any field of research including but not limited to:

  •      Natural sciences
  •      Engineering and Technology
  •      Medical and Health Sciences
  •      Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences
  •      Social sciences
  •      Humanities and the Arts

Interested applicants are invited to submit their application along with supporting documentation documents electronically to rep.mcst@gov.mt with “Call for Evaluators in Research Excellence Programme CALL” as a subject heading. Interested Evaluators are requested to submit their response and all relevant documents, by not later than 26th October 2020. If selected, the agreement shall run for a period of one year.

PARADISE Call:

The PARADISE Call is a call for Ideas towards start-up actions for a plastic free healthy Mediterranean sea. The call is aimed at Enabling Research in Plastics in a Circular Economy Context, it is intended to support applicant entities seeking to escalate the activities that will lead to an enhanced project proposal based on any actions they wish to carry out locally and may include activities overseas.

Interested parties should have a proven track record and will be expected to work under their own initiative and in dialogue with the Council. Expertise in areas including but not limited to:

  •       Business Development
  •       Higher Education and Research
  •       Climate Change
  •       Environment
  •       Water
  •       Transport
  •       Sustainable Development
  •       Building Strategic Partnerships
  •       Other

R&I Scheme 2020 - Support Scheme for Research and Innovation Projects in the Fields of Energy and Water

Source of Funding: Energy and Water Agency

The R&I Scheme seeks to support R&I projects whose objectives are in line with national policies and seek to contribute in a tangible manner to addressing one of the following:

  1. A national policy priority or challenge in the energy and water sectors; or
  2. Economic competitiveness and growth in a variety of national sectors, from an energy and water perspective.

The selection and funding of proposals under this Scheme shall be on a competitive basis.

The focus is on projects at oriented-basic research and applied research to experimental design stage, that is projects at Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 2-6, with a duration ranging between eighteen and twenty-four (18-24) months.

Target projects may fall in a range of disciplines, from engineering and natural sciences to social and behavioural sciences, big data and artificial intelligence.

Seven overarching topics have been identified as priority areas for support. Preference for financial support will be given to the highest scoring proposals within these priority areas; there is no order of preference of the priority areas.
